چکیده

An aplasia of the erythroblastic tissue in the bone marrow, without involvement of either leucocytes or platelets, is referred to by Whitby and Britton (1946) as a medical curiosity. This aplasia may be complete or partial. If complete, there is no formation of normal red-cell precursors. Strictly speaking, the term 'aplastic anaia ' should be reserved for cases of this kind, where there is a pure red-cell anaemia without involvement of leucocytes or platelets. If the aplasia is partial, then the term ' hypoplastic ' is used. ' Aleukia haemorrhagica ' (Frank, 1915) would be a better term to use for

Hypoplastic anaemia in infancy and childhood: erythroid hypoplasia.

In 1936, Josephs reported 'a hypoplastic or aplastic type of anaemia confined to a failure of erythropoiesis' in two children. Diamond and Blackfan (1938) gave a more detailed description of the disorder in four children, and emphasized the features of a chronic progressive anaemia beginning early in infancy, with a tendency to moderate depression of the leucocyte and thrombocyte counts, and se...

Autosomal dominant inheritance and amino aciduria in Blackfan-Diamond anaemia.

Since congenital hypoplastic anaemia was first described by Diamond and Blackfan in 1938, over a hundred cases have been reported in the literature. The syndrome is characterized by a profound persistent anaemia, onset early in infancy, a severe hypoplasia of the erythroid precursors of the bone marrow, and absence of other haematological abnormalities. Until steroids become available for treat...

Congenital (erythroid) hypoplastic anaemia: modified expression in males.

Intractable anaemia beginning soon after birth or in the first few months of life, and due to a hypoplastic state of the bone-marrow, is rare. As case reports have accumulated, it has become clear that this rather broad description includes a variety of syndromes. One of these, first described briefly by Josephs (1938) and Diamond and Blackfan (1938), has come to be recognized as a clearlydefin...

Aplastic anaemia evolving into myelodysplastic syndrome.

Acquired aplastic anaemia is a clonal disorder of multifactonal origin. The ~pathophysiology of this disorder is still not clear Presumably the multiple incriminating factors include an intrinsic derangement of haematopoiesis, immune mediated damage to bone marrow and genetic predisposition. The long term complications of the aplastic anaemia include clonal evolution into disorders like Paroxys...

Cortisone Therapy in Erythrogenesis

A rare but distinctive condition, which may be called erythrogenesis imperfecta (Cathie, 1950) or infantile pure red-cell anaemia, is gaining recognition. The nomenclature is, however, confusing. For example, some cases have been reported in later childhood, rendering inappropriate the word 'infantile'. Again, the varied titles illustrate the confusion of terminology. In the widest sense, i.e.,...
